A
reflection on
the Gospel for
the Second
Sunday in
Ordinary
Time
|
|
There is
a Mexican
ballad titled
if you
tell me to
come, I will
leave
everything.
This could
easily be a
vocational
hymn. Vocation
is a calling;
the voice of
someone (in the
life of faith
it is God), who
says
come.
The response to
this call is to
leave
everything
behind and
follow the
calling out of
love. Vocations
can come in
many ways:
through the
testimony of
others and the
example of
people called
to follow God
and who often
heroically
pursued their
call and
commitment.
This example
makes echo of a
persons
search and
responds to the
invitation of
God by way of
Jesus Christ.
What are we
looking for?
How do we hear
the possible
calls that
people around
us provide
examples of
responding to
Gods call
with their
lives. They are
people who
serve, live for
others, and
give generously
what they have
for the benefit
of others. They
are people who
do not keep
track of what
they give, are
loyal, honest,
meet their
obligations,
and to sum it
up, are a
manifestation
of the life of
Christ in this
world. We all
know and can
think about
people who are
like that.
Sometimes we
think they
cannot be
imitated, but
if we think
carefully about
their lives,
maybe we will
realize that
their
circumstances
are not that
different from
ours. They
simply dared
talents for
themselves out
of comfort or
stinginess.

Una
reflexión
sobre el
evangelio del
segundo domingo
del tiempo
Ordinario
|
|
Hay un
bolero mexicano
que se titula
Si
tú me
dices ven, lo
dejo
todo.
Podría
ser como un
himno a la
vocación.
La
vocación,
una llamada, es
la voz de
alguien (en la
vida de fe,
Dios) que dice
ven.
La respuesta a
eso es dejar
otras cosas
atrás y
acudir a la
llamada, por
amor. La
vocación
puede venir de
varías
maneras: por el
testimonio de
otros y el
ejemplo de
personas que se
sintieron
llamados a
seguir a Dios
y, a veces
heroicamente
siguieron esa
llamada y
compromiso. El
ejemplo hace
eco a la
búsqueda
de la persona y
responde a la
invitación
de Dios en
Jesucristo.
¿Qué
buscamos?
¿Como
escuchamos las
posibles
llamadas de
Dios?
¿Qué
esperamos para
poder
responder? Hay
muchas personas
a nuestro
alrededor que
nos dan ejemplo
de haber
respondido a
Dios con todas
sus vidas. Son
las personas
que sirven, que
viven para los
demás,
que dan con
generosidad lo
que tienen para
el bien de los
demás.
Son esas
personas que no
miden lo que
dan, que son
leales, que
dicen la
verdad, que
cumplen con sus
obligaciones,
que son
reflejo, en
suma, de la
vida de Cristo
en el mundo.
Todos las
conocemos, y
podemos pensar
en ellas. Pero
a veces podemos
pensar que son
inimitables. Si
pensamos
cuidadosamente
en su vida,
quizá
nos demos
cuenta de que
sus
circunstancias
no so tan
distintas de
las nuestras.
Que no tienen
especiales
privilegios u
oportunidades
distintas de
las nuestras.
Simplemente, se
atreven a poner
todo a
disposición
de Dios, sin
guardarse cosas
o talentos para
si por
comodidad o
tacañería.

It seems we know a person better, and we
feel closer to him or her when we have
been to that persons home. If we
have been invited in, we feel more
familiarity. The disciples of Jesus want
to know where he lives. They want to be
closer to him. In the first reading,
Samuel wants to hear the voice of the
Lord. This is our same thirst: We want to
be closer, to hear better the one we know
can give us life. We want to see the face
of Jesus; we want to know where he lives
and how to listen to him. We are told this
is simple: Jesus lives in all those God
loves, particularly in those who are
simpler, smaller in the eyes of the world,
the poorest. But we need to have open ears
like Samuel and open eyes to recognize
Jesus. Today Jesus lives in our cities in
those who need something from us. Just as
Samuel heard the voice of God and thought
it was his teacher, we need to be ready to
recognize the presence of Jesus in the
person near us, starting by the ones
closer to us.
Parece que conocemos mejor a una persona,
y nos sentimos más cercanos cuando
conocemos su casa. Si se nos ha invitado,
podemos sentir más familiaridad.
Los discípulos de Jesús
quieren saber dónde vive. Quieren
estar más cerca. En la primera
lectura, Samuel quiere escuchar la voz de
Dios. Es la misma sed que tenemos todos:
arcercarnos más a donde sabemos que
hay vida. Hoy también buscamos el
rostro de Jesús, también
queremos saber dónde vive y como
escucharle. Se nos dice que esto es muy
sencillo. Hoy Jesús vive en todos
los que Dios ama: sobre todo los
más sencillos, los más
pequeños y los más pobres.
Pero hace falta tener el oido muy
dispuesto, como Samuel, y los ojos muy
abiertos para conocerlo bien. Hoy
cerca.
